MLB The Show 20's First Gameplay Trailer Revealed

MLB The Show 20 is set to launch on March 17, 2020 for PlayStation 4. Before then, however, Sony has released the first gameplay trailer for this year's virtual edition of America's favorite pastime.

Aside from a few new dance moves and celebrations, the trailer also hints at reworked fielding mechanics, shows off some of the new perks available in Road to the Show, and ends at the old Yankee Stadium with a mouth-watering clash between David Ortiz and Hall of Famer Mariano Rivera--presumably teasing a matchup from the returning Moments mode. We also get our first glimpse of players in their new uniforms, such as Gerrit Cole on the Yankees, Anthony Rendon on the Angels, and Didi Gregorious on the Phillies.

Developer SIE San Diego Studio promises to share more details as we approach MLB The Show 20's March release date. The studio has released a developer livestream schedule, with streams airing on Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook Live leading up to launch day. Each one delves into a specific area of the game, including gameplay improvements, Road to the Show, March to October 2.0, and the new Showdown mode.

Those who pre-order any of the collector's editions of MLB The Show 20--the MVP Edition, GameStop Exclusive 15th Anniversary Edition or PlayStation Store Exclusive Digital Deluxe Edition--will gain access to the game four days early for the Early Access Weekend starting on March 13.

MLB The Show 20 marks the last time the series will be developed solely for the PS4, what with the PlayStation 5 set to launch Holiday 2020. It might also be the last game in the series that's a PlayStation exclusive, due to a new multi-year agreement between MLB, the Major League Baseball Players Association, Sony, and Sony's San Diego Studio, announcing that The Show series will come to "additional console platforms beyond PlayStation" starting as early as 2021.
