Here we are in 2020, a big year for VR with quite a few exciting games like Half-Life: Alyx and Phantom: Covert Ops on the way. There were some excellent deals on VR headsets during Black Friday and the holidays, but if you still haven't grabbed that headset you want, then there are still ways to get your hands on one--even if it might be on back-order for quite some time.
One of the best VR deals going on right now is for the all-in-one Oculus Quest, which proved so popular during Black Friday that it's sold out nearly everywhere. However, if you can find an Oculus Quest before January 31, you'll get all three episodes of Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series as long as you activate your headset within 30 days of purchasing it. Oculus is the only retailer still accepting backorders.
Oculus Quest (64GB/128GB) with Vader Immortal | $400/$500
Available for back-order; compatible with Half-Life: Alyx
Oculus is the last place you can back-order the Quest. The 64 GB option is expected to ship by February 28, while the 128 GB variation will ship by February 27. The Oculus Quest doesn't need to connect to a PC, which gives you full freedom to move within your designated space. However, if you're interested in plugging it into a PC, Oculus recently introduced Oculus Link, which lets you connect your Quest to a PC with a high-quality USB 3.0 cable. And yes, that means it's compatible with Half-Life: Alyx.
You can see all of the best VR deals below. We know there's interest in Half-Life: Alyx, so we've made a note of pointing out which ones will be ready to go for its March release date.
VR deals and discounts
Samsung HMD Odyssey+ | Starting at $300 ($500)
Compatible with Half-Life: Alyx
The Samsung HMD Odyssey+ is a great headset, especially at this price. As far as Windows Mixed Reality headsets go, this is the best one. You get two free months of Viveport Infinity, a VR game subscription service, with your purchase, and there's also a huge library of compatible games on Steam, including the upcoming Half-Life: Alyx. Amazon has discounts from third-party retailers starting as low as $300.
HTC Vive Cosmos | $600 ($700)
Compatible with Half-Life: Alyx
The Vive Cosmos is HTC's first headset with inside-out tracking, something that Oculus has adopted for both the Quest and Rift S. That means you don't need any sensors to use the Cosmos; however, unlike the Quest, you will need to plug it into a PC to power it. Amazon currently has the HTC Vive Cosmos for $600, down from its regular price of $700. In addition to the headset and controllers, it comes with a six-month subscription to Viveport Infinity, a service that grants players access to a library of VR games and experiences.
Oculus Go (32GB) | $149 ($199)
The Oculus Go headset's focus is more on media viewing. It's a great headset for watching movies, shows, and other videos, but you won't be able to play any of the games on Steam. Amazon has the 32 GB version of the headset discounted to $149, but if you want the 64 GB option, then you'll have to pay the full price of $249.
