Ultraviolent PS4/Switch/PC Game Bloodroots Is Out This Month

Bloodroots--the ultraviolent isometric action game described as a "ballet of destruction"--launches on February 28 for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, developer Paper Cult Games announced.

Paper Cult co-founder Ralph Toulouse took to the PlayStation Blog to detail some of Bloodroots' features, including a brief story synopsis, character introductions, and more. Along with sharing the game's release date and story beats, Toulouse called Bloodroots a mix of "Kill Bill meets The Revenant, and spice it up with a lot of Jackie Chan."

In Bloodroots, you play as Mr. Wolf, a primal warrior cloaked in wolf's fur. Mr. Wolf discovers a town ravaged by flames when the Blood Beats gang, led by Mr. Black Wolf, ambushes and leaves him for dead. After somehow surviving the attack, Mr. Wolf charges down the path of revenge, hunting down each gang member one by one. It's a classic revenge tale, featuring dialogue written by Nick Suttner (Celeste, Guacamelee 2), with some fluid-looking animation that seems very much inspired by Hotline Miami.

Originally revealed in August 2018, we had the chance to play Bloodroots at PAX East 2019. You can check out more gameplay from the game's final version above. It also managed to make our list of 24 upcoming games you should definitely keep your eyes on, some of which have still yet to launch.
