Doom Eternal And Animal Crossing Fans Have Become Supportive Friends

Despite one of the biggest games of the month--Final Fantasy 7 Remake--getting pushed to early April, March is still packed to the gills with releases. And two of those upcoming games are seeing some unexpected and wholesome cross-pollination: Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Doom Eternal.

Both titles launch on March 20--Animal Crossing: New Horizons lands on Nintendo Switch, while Doom Eternal comes to basically everything else (Google Stadia, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, as well as Switch sometime this year). And both subreddit communities are cheering each other on.

Over in the Doom subreddit, fans are posting a variety of artwork featuring the Doomguy and Isabelle, Animal Crossing's adorable little Shih Tzu. The crossover art is rendered in a bunch of different styles, from traditional Animal Crossing fare to memes and everything in between.

The Animal Crossing subreddit is populated with similar art and memes. These include pictures of Isabelle "standing guard" in front of Doomguy, old-school Doomguy purchasing New Horizon's at an in-game shop, and more. Sometimes competition and rivalry aren't negative, and these communities show that.

Id Software game director Hugo Martin spoke a little about Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Doom Eternal sharing the same release date during a recent preview event. "I think it's awesome and it speaks to the amazing diversity that we see in games today," Martin said. "I honestly root for other games and other studios."

In other Animal Crossing news, Nintendo has announced a New Horizons-specific Direct will go live on February 20 at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET / 2 PM GMT. The broadcast is said to be approximately 25 minutes long and will feature "an in-depth look at Nook Inc.'s Deserted Island Getaway Package." You can stream the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Direct on Nintendo's website, Twitch, and YouTube.
