Assassin's Creed Syndicate Will Be Free At Epic Games Store This Week

The Epic Games Store's weekly free games are continuing through 2020, and the current batch of free games--Kingdom Come: Deliverance and Aztez--are available now. However, Epic has also revealed which games will take their place. The upcoming freebies are Faeria, a turn-based strategy and digital card game, and Assassin's Creed Syndicate, the London-based entry in Ubisoft's long-running series. Last week, only Faeria was revealed as an upcoming freebie, but Epic is sweetening the pot by adding Syndicate, too. Both games will be free to claim starting Thursday, February 20 at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET. If you've never claimed a free game from Epic, all you need is an account, which is also free to create. After claiming a game, it'll be in your library forever.

Released in 2015, Assassin's Creed Syndicate is a mainline entry in Ubisoft's ubiquitous open-world action franchise. It takes place in Victorian era London and stars twins Jacob and Evie Frye on a quest to track down the Templar Order. Syndicate was the last game in the franchise that retained the franchise's original play style. The most recent games in the series, Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Odyssey, have leaned into role-playing mechanics.

In GameSpot's Assassin's Creed Syndicate review, critic Alexa Ray Corriea praised London's world design, the story and characters, and the beautiful soundtrack. "The game is a triumphant return to form for the franchise, and presents a beautifully structured tale with heart and soul to spare. Ziplining through London is thrilling, and the game allows you to organically discover missions and leaves you open-ended solutions lets you to create a meaningful, personal experience within its world," she wrote.

Faeria is a digital card-collecting strategy game where you build decks and shape the map as you battle, from building forests to filling lakes. The game has over 100 hours of solo content as well as co-op missions and puzzles. There's even a draft mode called Pandora to test your deck-building skills against another player or an AI. Faeria also features an in-game tournament mode and regular esports competitions.

In Faeria, all cards can be unlocked through playing the game rather than microtransactions, and all 300 cards can be gained in less than 50 hours. The game also has a wide range of DLC, and each expansion adds additional cards, cosmetics, and more.
